This project was coordinated in line with the RSA Student Design Awards 2020/21
Myself and my project partner chose to tackle the brief ‘Home Sweet Home’ which focused on age proof design, not just designing for the elderly and also a focus on a reduced carbon footprint.
Covid-19 severely affected this project as we had very little access to making facilities and users to gain direct feedback.
Research:
Methodologies:
Interviews with 2 architectural technologists and relatives.
User Journey Map of elderly relative (age 85).
Brainstorming and Brain-writing.
Insights:
Poor lighting on stairways for all age groups in a home.
Assistive installations generally have non attractive aesthetics.
Easy reparability is a key feature of homeware products which needs to be a feature for this design.
Development:

Final product:
What does it do?
Provides a safer way for all age groups to use stairways.
A seamless design causes it to adapt to any domestic environment.
