Sustainable toothbrush
Sustainable Electric Toothbrush
Project:
Initially in groups were were tasked with analysing a current electrical appliance that lacks a lot of sustainability.
Then by myself choose an electrical appliance and create a strategy causing it to become more sustainable.
Research:
The project started with the disassembly of an existing electric toothbrush
From this I discovered that the neck of the toothbrush is a pinpoint for a lack of sustainable design as it contained multiple multiple materials and could not be disassembled.
I conducted a survey to discover the cause for users disposing of these toothbrush heads. From the survey I found that it was mainly due to the bristles fraying.
With that in mind I aimed to re-design the neck to have the section of bristles also removable.
For the final design I decided to go with simple two dot insert.
Meaning that with force the bristle section can be extracted and replaced causing a better life cycle for these disposable toothbrush heads
Materials:
Bristle body: HDPE
Bristles: Recyclable Nylon
